During this time he has specialized as a Batting, Bowling and Fielding coach for various teams. He is highly driven and has demonstrated a huge amount of success in his roles with numerous outstanding achievements, notably winning 9 domestic titles in New Zealand domestic cricket. Wellington Firebirds – Head Coach & Assistant/Batting Coach
He held the position of Head Coach for four years. The team performed outstandingly well, having won four titles in that period. There was also a significant increase in the development of young talent and players progressing into the BLACKCAPS, most notably with five players making their international debuts for the BLACKCAPS in the last three years of him coaching.
Prior to being Head Coach, he was assistant/batting coach for the team for 6 years working with Head Coaches Bruce Edgar and Jamie Siddons. During this time, he also took on the fielding coaching responsibilities.
He was appointed as Head Coach of the BLACKCAPS for the T20 tour to Bangladesh. In the five match T20 series against Bangladesh the team competed well and ended up being edged by the hosts 3-2 in the series. This was a positive result and tour given the team have not performed well before in Bangladesh and the relative in-experience of the New Zealand side in that format.
He worked with the Ireland Women’s team as a batting coach. This required him to coach them on how to play spin which was great for their development leading into the World T20 qualifying tournament. The team performed to a high-level becoming runners up meaning they qualified for the World T20 Cup in 2014.
He also used his experience in performance analysis to up skill their national men’s coaching team to insure they prepare more thoroughly both as a team and individuals.
He held a variety of roles within the club. With the 1st XI he participated in the fielding up skilling training sessions that were run between games. He also worked as a Coaching Assistant for the 2nd XI and Academy sides focusing on developing batsman.
Between these roles he worked with their head analyst to develop new innovative statistical reports. These valuable skills are an area he incorporated into his coaching plans by reviewing and previewing more thoroughly to enable player development.
