Wellington Firebirds – Assistant Coach & various other roles 2010-Present
My current position is Assistant Coach, which I’ve held for the previous four seasons. During that period the team has performed outstandingly, having won three titles in three years.
I originally started working for the Firebirds on a part-time project around fielding analysis, which grew bigger after having built trust and rapport with both staff and players. This then led into the next season where I worked as an Analyst using the Feedback Cricket system. In 2012/13 I began working as a Coaching Assistant under Jamie Siddons.

Cricket Ireland – Coach and Analyst Apr-Sept 2013
Whilst at Cricket Ireland, I worked with the Ireland Women’s team as a batting coach. This required me to coach them on how to play spin which was great for their development leading into the World T20 qualifying tournament. The team performed to a high level becoming runners up meaning they qualified for the World T20 Cup in 2014.
I also used my experience in performance analysis to up skill their national men’s coaching team to insure they prepare more thoroughly both as a team and individuals. This flowed through to the domestic competition Cricket Ireland ran where I also worked with the domestic coaches in a similar capacity.
Sussex County Cricket Club – Coaching Consultant Apr-Aug 2012
I held a variety of roles within the club ranging from coaching with the County 1st XI to coaching with the County U15 side. With the 1st XI they had a highly professional setup where I was involved in the fielding up skilling training sessions that were run between games. I also worked as a Coaching Assistant for the 2nd XI and Academy sides, and travelled with the U15 and U17 teams when available.
Between these roles I worked with their head analyst to develop new innovative statistical reports. These valuable skills are an area I incorporate into my coaching plans by reviewing and previewing games. This is something that has a positive impact by speeding up player understanding and development.
Ajax Cricket Club – Head Coach Apr-Sept 2011
This was a lower performing club in Holland where I was responsible for the coaching of the whole club with an emphasis on the 1st XI men’s and women’s teams. The club was ambitious and had lacked leadership around coaching.
The challenge of language barriers taught me how important effective communication needs to be and how important it is to be thoroughly organised. These experiences have resulted in the development of those attributes to a high degree and has meant I put effective communication and planning to the forefront in the practice of my profession.
